Extra
Curricular Activities by the Education Students
University education is not only
meant for devotion to regulated study and handing
in coursework and examination answers. Our life is
combined with participation in extra curricular activities.
The University students’ body has got many associations
and societies to which all students should endeavor
to belong.
The University has arranged also games and sports
in which students should try to engage.
All these arrangements are intended for a wholesome
development of University students socially and physically
and through which they interact with other students
who do not necessarily belong to their Faculties,
Institutes and Schools.
Therefore an education student must belong to one
or to several of the above arrangements. This is more
desirable because education students are aiming at
working in schools and in other educational institutions
as teachers and administrators. While there, they
are expected to encourage their pupils and students
to participate in extra curricular activities for
their normal, physical and social development.
The absence of enthusiasm for engaging in extra curricular
activities at the University may mirror the lack of
encouragement of these activities in secondary schools
by the teachers, the majority of whom are educated
through the School of Education.
Therefore education students cultivate love for extra
curricular activities with the view of carrying this
love into schools and pass it on to those students
who will be committed to their care.
One of the societies to which Education students must
belong is called the Makerere
Education Students Association (MESA) which provides
a forum through which students interact with each
other.
