STUDENT ENROLMENT

Registration with the Academic Registrar

On entry into the University, a student registers first centrally under the Department of the Academic Registrar.

Before registering under the Department of the Academic Registrar, a student must have paid the registration fee, the examination fees and the tuition fees.

Registering with the School of Education

After registering centrally with the Department of the Academic Registrar, a student is required to register in the School of Education.

Registration with other Faculties.

The B.A. with Education students must also register for the courses which they pursue in either the Faculty of Arts or in the Faculty of Social Sciences if they are Day students.

The Evening students register only with the Dean’s Office of the School of Education after registering centrally because they carry on their studies entirely in the School of Education.

The B.SC. with Education students must also register for the courses which they pursue in the Faculty of Science.

Registration periods are published by the Academic Registrar’s Department and by the Deans of the School of Education, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Registration has got a time limit and is clearly shown by the Department of the Academic Registrar and by the offices of the above respective Faculties and School of Education.

Time-Tables

The School of Education has two categories of students:

  • Day students
  • And Evening students.

Day Education students pursue both Teacher Education courses and content subject courses.
The teacher education courses are pursued in the School of Education. The content subject courses are pursued in either the Faculty of Arts, or Faculty of Social Sciences or Faculty of Science.

Day BA.with Education students and Day B.SC. with Education students follow two kinds of time-tables.

  • One kind of time-table is issued by the School of Education. This time-table is followed by all Education Students year per year and consists of courses in Educational Psychology, Curriculum Studies, Educational Foundations and Management and in special Methods of Teaching.
  • The second kind of time-tables is those which are issued by the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Social Sciences where content subject courses are pursued.
It is necessary therefore, on entry into the University, for an Education student on the Day programme to be aware of this scenario so that he/she may not miss lectures by copying only the time-table in the School of Education without being aware that there is another time-table he/she must follow either in the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science or Faculty of Social Sciences

Evening education students pursue all their lectures in the School of Education. Therefore there is only one time-table for these Evening students and it is issued by the School of Education.

Adding or Dropping Courses
A student may add or drop a course during the Course Add/Drop period by the end of the second week of the semester as specified in the academic year calendar. Students do this by obtaining the Course Add/Drop Form from the Department of the Academic Registrar. The adding or dropping of courses is not official until all applicable tuition fees have been paid to the Bursar’s Department and the completed Add/Drop Form has been received in the Office of the Dean of Education.

A registration fee of Ug shs 5,000/= is levied for each course added. There is no fee for dropping a course.

Withdrawing from Courses

A student may withdraw from one or more courses after the time of Add/Drop period that is after two weeks from the commencement of a semester.

A student my drop a course or courses before half of the course is completed with the approval of the course instructor provided that the student has the minimum required core courses.

Withdrawing from the School of Education

First year Education students who wish to withdraw from the School of Education and join other Faculties must do so before the end of the second week of the first semester by filling a form from the Academic Registrar’s Department. This wish to withdraw from the School of Education shall be only official when permission has been granted by the Academic Registrar who notifies the Dean of the School of Education

A student who ceases to attend lectures without officially withdrawing is subject to a grade of failure (‘F”) for all courses for which he/she is registered.
A student who officially or unofficially withdraws from the University owing a debt to the University shall not be allowed to re-enroll until that debt has been paid in frill and shall not be issued with his/her certificate and transcript.

The Degree Certificates and Transcripts

On completion of the programme, a student is issued with a Degree Certificate and a Transcript by the Academic Registrar’s Department at a fee. All these last papers are issued after verifying that a student has been registering centrally with the Academic Registrar semester per semester, and the record of marks scored in each semester has been sent to the Department of the Academic Registrar by the School of Education and that he/she owes no debt to the University.

A student therefore must make efforts to visit the Dean’s Office of the School of Education during each semester to make sure that his/her record especially of marks is in order to avoid inconvenience after completing the programme when he/she requires to get his/her Transcript. No excuses shall be entertained by the School that students were not informed by the School of Education about their registration stand and their academic status. The responsibility is upon them to find out about these two scenarios from the Dean’s Office of the School of Education which is always open and the workers therein ready to show them their records.
