School
hunts for Guild president 2003 /2004.
Previously, School of Education had no candidates in
the race for Guild president not until 2001/ 2002 when
one candidate came up to contest for the same post and
this was Kiggundu Anthony. In the year 2002/ 2003 another
candidate from Bachelor of Science in Education also
joined the race and emerged the second among the 18
contestants. The Academic year 2003 /2004 were many
contestants from School of Education that has given
every body an impression that since other years education
students have been emerging the second, this time the
Guild president is from this faculty. Candidates were;
Kalema Ali from Bsc Education, Ssemanda Alex Patrick,
Byasi Vincent Lugonvu, Ssemambo Rashid, Mutebi Ronald,
and Kiranda Yusuf, all from Bachelor of Arts with Education.
As the country is a multipartist, the ‘no change”
slogan was heard from the supporters as the outgoing
president Okema sided with another candidate from the
UPC party. All students are entitled to engage themselves
in the race excluding the first year students on the
post of Guild president. In all the previous years,
elections have been going on well and allow students
to explode their views in politics of both their country
and the institution.
For this Academic year, nominations took place on 7th
and 8th of April 2003 from 9:00-4:00 pm.
There were some rules and regulations to be followed
like:
MESA Elections 2003 /2004.
In late April 2003 after the Guild
Elections, all faculties engage in the Faculty races
for leadership of which MESA is inclusive. Candidates
contesting for the MESA Presidency have to be in Second
year without a retake. Posts to be campaigned for
include; Presidency, Finance, women affairs, Academic
affairs and Information.
Those who went through the nomination
successfully were exposed to free campaigns though
even before that they would campaign secretly what
they term as “kakuyege”.
During the campaigns, all candidates
choose their campaigning managers and body which aims
at the smooth running of the campaigns. The campaigners
serve students with things like: mangoes, crisps,
sweets, every type of juice, avocado and sweet bananas
which are commonly referred to as “logistics”,
in order to persuade them vote their candidate.
The main campaigning fields are the
lecture rooms before any lecture commences, dining
halls during meals and hostels. Posts campaigned for
are; president, vice president, General secretary,
Assistant General secretary, Finance minister, Academic
Affairs, publicity secretary, women affairs ,chief
editor, Assistant chief editor, Non-resident representative
and representative for disabled students.
Increment of late registration and bank charge
fees
After a fixed time of registration
has expired, whoever comes to register for any semester
has to pay an amount of 12000/= which was initially
6000/=. Also the Bank charge increased from 1000/=
to 2000/=per Deposit to every student.
Promotions in School of Education.
Mr. Rwagalla Akankwansa the former
Head of Department, Educational Foundations and Management
was promoted to Director of Educational Management
of the University. He was replaced by Dr. Babigumira
who is also a Lecturer in School of Education though
this created a big gap within the Department.
